Fidel Castro lays a wreath at the Lincoln Memorial.

Fidel Castro lays a wreath at the Lincoln Memorial.

This is a photograph by Alberto Korda, the Cuban photographer of Che Guevara at the Lincoln Memorial in 1959. Gelatin silver print. Both of which refer to the incident. (Or will do when the pic is added) Rationale for use on the Fidel Castro and Cuba-United States relations page:
  • It is the only available photograph of a historically significant event.
  • Cuba did not sign the Berne Convention until 1997.
  • It is my understanding that the late Alberto Korda, also the photographer of the famous Che Guevara picture, fought to gain copyright status of the Guevara photograph, but allowed free use to anyone provided its use was not designed to denigrate the Cuban revolution. See also Image:CheyFidel.jpg.
  • The photo is only being used for informational and educational purposes.
It is my belief that the use of this photograph is in keeping with that objective.
